Richard Sears

Our first attempt at The Star-Spangled Banner was similar to the original. We didn’t love it but felt uneasy putting our own spin on such an iconic piece. Richard Sears, my vocal coach, heard it and was disappointed in the arrangement. He felt it lacked the “allure” and “mystery” he loves in our music and challenged us to include the same essence in the national anthem. As the impetus for The Brave, we owe him a huge debt of gratitude and I also can’t thank him enough for helping me to grow as a singer and artist. We’re very fortunate to have someone who encourages us to be bold, creative and ultimately our best.
